In a popular examination of conscience resource I like to use (so holy), one of the questions asks about defaming someone's reputation. I usually just gloss over this one because 'I could never be capable of ruining someone's reputation. That's just crazy". Really though.... Think about it. In that group study session, what we were saying had the potential of becoming slanderous if we had continued.
What is God's will in these situations? To Love? Probably.
And now to dust off one of my favourite quotes: "We have to get back to doing God's will, and get away from doing our will in God's name" - Unknown.
Sometimes we just need to love em anyway. No matter how righteous your anger might be, it doesn't act as a free pass for gossip, slander, or sin,
